Dell Dimension E310 Stop Error 0x0000007E (0xC000001D, 0x80537008, 0xF8A503B8, 0xF8A500B4)

Specs:

Dell Dimension E310
Windows XP Media Edition
Intel Pentium 4HT Inside
256MB(x2) DDR2 PC2-4300 Memory

I have a computer with the above specs giving me a lot of grief. When I push the power button none of the diagnostic lights(1234) show any problems. It brings me to the "Windows has shut down unexpectedly" screen with the options for safe mode, safe mode with networking, last known good configuration, etc. If I choose start normally or last known good configuration I get a blue screen with the following code:

0x0000007E (0xC000001D, 0x80537008, 0xF8A503B8, 0xF8A500B4)

it doesn't point to a driver or anything. Just the standard "If this is the first time you've seen this blah blah."

When I attempt to go into safe mode it starts loading but hangs at

\WINDOWS\System32\Drivers\AVGIDSxx.sys

I booted another OS on a CD but none of my Hard disk software is seeing the hard drive, but it's recognized in the BIOS. I've set the bios back to defaults, reseated the memory(because I moved it from one house to another) checked all the connections. I'm not sure what else to do. I'm kind of in a bind because the original owner is saying "it was working when I used it last!" But the problem it has doesn't seem like anything simply moving from one location to another would cause. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hi Shoguo,

This is most likely a software problem. If I understand correctly, you've just purchased the system used? You might try simply restoring the factory hard drive image.

Try running Windows XP "Repair".  Boot from the Windows XP disc but select "Repair" instead of Install.

I can't get to anything hard drive related and i'm trying locate a windows xp media center disc, or will a windows xp home or pro disc work? And will it even detect the hard drive since none of my other software will?

AVGIDSxx.sys is AVG anti-virus.

There is a Dell-branded copy of XP Media Center Edition for sale on eBay: www.ebay.com/.../330687315280

I bought a Dell E 310 to have something to play with and wiped the drive and installed XP pro and my software.  Everything woked fine so I upgraded the memory to 2GB and added an inexpensive sound card.  All was well.  Then I decided to set up the CMOS to boot to a USB  device, then the CD rom and then the hard drive.  I immediately began getting the blue screen 0x0000007B error message.  It suggested that I check my drive controlled and connections.  The previous owner had just changed the drive controller.  Everything looked ok but still got the screen.  I went into CMOS and move the USB boot to the bottom and restarted.  All is well again.  I think the controller logic will not handle a boot device not found and resorts to the blue screen.

You must set the sata operation to Legacy or ATA or Raid ATA or Combination.  You cannot install with AHCI mode unless you use F6 DRIVERS.
