Hi, I have a Dell Dimension E520 and I was wondering if it supports any of the newer dell motherboards. Thanks for your help.

There are no motherboards, other than a Dell e520 OEM motherboard that will fit the proprietary BTX e520 EOL chassis, neither are there any retail BTX motherboards available.

The Dimension e520 is the last model of this series, Dell made.

Only 65 nm processors with 800 or 1066fsb will work with the E-520.

The Q6700 should work, but before installing the processor, check that you have BIOS version 2.2.1 [or higher] installed, when additional CPU support was added.

It doesn't really fit any newer motherboard due to propriety design. Its better to get a new Desktop tower as a complete bundle. Look at the XPS 8700 or even the Inspiron 3000 desktop which will significantly outperform your system.

No, both the chassis and motherboard of the e520 are the obsolete BTX format, the newer Dell desktops are ATX.

As already stated, better to buy a newer ATX system.

Is there any newer dell dimension Btx motherboards that would fit in this case? I don't want to buy a whole new computer.

I just would like to know which dell btx motherboard that could fit in the e520 would let me use a newer cpu than the q6600. I bet I can find a cheap one on Ebay, if I was getting a new computer I would never buy a dell, dell is literally the worst computer company.

You are looking at $150-$200 to replace the motherboard on a computer that is more than 5 years old. Like the others, I recommend taking that $200 and putting it towards a new Inspiron 3000 or XPS 8700 desktop that will last you for a while, as well as give you up to date performance. The Inspiron 3000 starts at $499.99 and gives you plenty of performance.

The E520 motherboard is a very good part. It will support QX6800,X6800 2.93GHZ cpu. 8GB @800 DDR2 RAM. Cooler D9729 bolts right in. With small modification GTX750ti video card can be installed. T9303 cooler is better but requires slight modifcation to the cover. Throttlestop software and Core2 Extreme gives control of voltage and multiplier so overclocking is possible. 3.2GHZ is easy. with QX6800 SLACP 3.45 is possible.Mine is running 3.73GHZ and I've had it to 4GHZ momentarily , but more advanced cooling and voltage mods are required for these settings. Make sure any new video card doesn't require EUFI BIOS. Aftermarket PSUs fit with out problems, just fold any metal tabs back in as needed.
