Difference between mobos G33M03 and DG33M03
Hey guys
I need a G33M03 (it's said it can hold any Core2Quad cpu) but there's a neat mobo called 'DG33M03' which I now aim.
Are those one and the same models, the DG and the G mobos?
Would they both support a Q8300 C2Q?
Thanks

As I've already posted, the DG33m03/G33m03 motherboard should work, providing the BIOS Version is 1.0.15, or higher.
If the version installed is not 1.0.15 or higher, you will need to update the BIOS before the Core 2 Quad processor is installed, plus install at least a 350w power supply.
The following is a list Core 2 Quad processors supported by the Inspiron 530 Min Tower's DG33m03/G33m03 motherboard,
Yorkfield Quad Core, Q8200, 2.33GHz, 4MB, 1333FSB, M1
Yorkfield Quad Core, Q8300, 2.50GHz, 4MB, 95W,R0
Yorkfield Quad Core, QX9300, 2.50GHz, 6MB, 1333FSB, M1
Yorkfield Quad Core, Q9400, 2.66GHz, 6MB, 1333FSB, R0
Yorkfield Quad Core, Q9450, 2.66GHz, 12MB, 1333FSB, C1
Yorkfield Quad Core, Q9550, 2.83GHz, 12MB, 1333FSB, C1
Yorkfield Quad Core, Q9550, 2.83GHz, 12MB, 1333FSB, E0
Yorkfield Quad Core, Q9650, 3.00GHz, 12MB, 1333FSB, E0
Kentsfield Quad Core, Q6600, 2.4GHz, 8MB, 1066FSB, G0

DG33m03 is a Foxconn P/N, check for the Dell P/N that should be listed on motherboard
http://www.findlaptopdriver.com/motherboard-dg33m03-specs/
The FoxConn DG33m03 [Dell P/N OFM586/G33M03] motherboard, with a 350w PSU, should support the following:-
Yorkfield Quad Core, Q8300, 2.50GHz, 4MB, 95W,R0
Prior to installing the processor check that you have BIOS Version 1.0.15, or higher installed, when support for new Intel CPU's was added.

that's what has put me in doubt: that findlaptopdriver website mentions 2 of the lowest core2quad processors. I've emailed them for details but there's been no response for 3 days now =(
If you tell me it works (sure, w/ a psu more powerful than the current 300w), I'll believe and buy the GM.
Thanks

I recently had a CPU failure, purchased an E8500-R CPU, installed it, works fast!
However, I cannot seem to update the BIOS -- from 1.0.13 to 1.0.16 -- the Dell BIOS app stops with error message about BIOS bin not for this system (?).
And I'm not sure if it is recognizing all of the RAM - the CMOS shows 4GB but it is showing 3.25GB after Windows starts up (?).
Am lost a bit on if the BIOS even needs updated and if so, how to do it? The old CPU is bad so I can't update the BIOS before installing the new CPU.

If the e8500 is running without any issues, on BIOS version 1.0.13, then there should be no need the update the BIOS.
Regards to the memory, if you have a 32-bit system, this does not recognize 4gb of memory, 3±gb is all a 32-bit system can address.
Basically what it means is, while you can install 4gb of memory in the system, the reason it’s not recognized is mainly due to 32-bit processors and/or 32-bit applications on memory address limitations.
64-bit processors & operating systems will recognize beyond the 32-bit limitation.

Bev,
I researched this process of upgrading my motherboard for a LOOONG time. I finally pulled the trigger and snagged a DG33M03 motherboard (running bios 1.0.13).
I attempted to upgrade the bios to the Inspiron 530 max of 1.0.18 but it gave me an error saying the bios bin was not for this computer. I researched and found the Vostro 400 uses this motherboard, so I downloaded that Bios update from Dell for the Vostro which worked! (1.0.15)
After the bios update, and installing the Q9650 Quad Core, I get a full speed spin of the case fan, then it stops completely. The cpu fan runs constant but at a very slow speed. I cannot upgrade the 32bit install of vista to ANYTHING 64bit.
Help :(

I tried that first, it cannot recognize the disc as an installer. I can boot the 64 bit cd, get the windows 8 logo, then after a minute or two it "crashes" and reboots.

You cannot upgrade a 32-bit system to a 64-bit operating system.
Instead, you need to carry out a clean reinstall of the 64-bit operating system, followed by loading all the appropriate drivers.

Yes, it's a full version of Windows 8.1Pro. It comes with 32 and 64 bit discs. The 32bit disc will boot right up.

Is it a retail copy of windows 8, with it's own COA?
