Dimension 5100 CPU Upgrade
Is there anywhere I could find a complete list of the CPUs that are compatible with the Dimension 5100 motherboard?
I would like to upgrade my CPU however I can't find any list of CPUs that are known to be compatible with the Dimension 5100's motherboard.
I checked the CPU socket type which is a LGA775, so I know that hardware-wise dual core CPUs should work, however the BIOS are very outdated, the most recent update for them was in 06, which was before dual-core CPUs so I'm not sure if it would recognize one.
Motherboard : Dell OJ8885
BIOS: Pheonix A01 (A03 is most recent)
Anyone know how I could find out which CPUs would be compatible, or know where I could find a list of them? Thanks.

Looks like I'm not alone in my hunt. I was wondering the same thing for the Dell 04GJJT. The last BIOS update to this one was 11/10/10 though

You're probably in a lot better shape than I am then haha. I just wish Dell provided decent documentation.

Yes, I was definitely disappointed at the lack of support for upgrading.

You can use Socket LGA-775, Prescott processors only, Dual Core, Core 2 Duo and Core 2 Quad processors are not supported.
More information HERE.

Thanks, that does help! Do you happen to know how I can find out who actually manufactured the motherboard to get all of the specific information on it, or is that manual all I'll be able to find out about it?

i put a Pentium d in mine witch is a dual core i found out that a celiron will work but a Pentium d is OK i like gaming and am wondering if a core 2 duo will work and another name for a Pentium d is Presslor so Prescott inst the only one that will work in there if you search Google for dell oj8885
and you get answers.yahoo.com/.../index
with a link to
ark.intel.com/.../27720,27683,27250core is possible and the core 2 duo is probably the best lintel chip out there better than amd Athlon 2 a quad core or maybe it has 6 core i am not sure look it up
