Dimension 5150 - Graphics card thats not a waste of money?

Hi

My Dell Dimension 5150 (Desktop) currently runs an XFX 7600GT 256mb card. I am looking to increase the graphics performance without buying a card that 1) is too expensive and 2) is wasted on my system. I'm running XP Home 32bit, and don't want to spend loooads a cash on a card that really needs a 64bit system or is meant for DirectX 10 when I can only use 9c on my system. My full specs are below and would be gratefull if anyone can tell me the best card DirectX 9c for my system. Doesnt have to be new, I am happy to buy second hand if it's an older model card thats the best. Oh, and please make it nVidia based cards, as I've previously been let down by ATi based cards.

Thanks in advance anyone.

PS. The BFG 7950GT OC 512mb I'd brought previously turned out to be faulty. But if thats the best for my system, let me know.

Video cards are not meant for 64-bit systems or for DirectX 10.  You don't have to get an older card just because you have an older system.   There is no reason to get an older 7 series card and buy another used one that may not work.  If you only have the 305W PSU, I would look at getting the newer GT 240 which is much better than any of the 7 series cards.  HERE is a list that have the better GDDR5 memory versus the slower GDDR3 as this card comes in both.  The GT 240 uses very little power and is just a small step behind the 9600GT in performance.  This is really the only Nvidia card to consider unless you want to upgrade your power supply.  The 7950GT is actually better than a 9500GT so I would not consider this card as there are too many of them with the even slower GDDR2 memory.  With an upgraded power supply, I would look at the 9800GT's.

Thanks for your reply.

One question though, the 9800GTs that I have found seem to list PCI-E x16 2.0? Is that compatible with my motherboard? I know it's a PCI-E x16, but I don't know what the 2.0 means.

Most all cards today are PCIe x16 2.0 and they are all backwards compatible with your mobo being 1.0 or 1.1.  Actually, version 3.0 will probably come out sometime this year.
