Can the onboard ethernet be disabled? If yes how can it be enabled?

You should be able to disable it in the BIOS (Setup). The Dell on-line manuals do not detail the Setup in this model but in all that I've seen there is an option to disable the on-board hardware devices.

Post your problem on the Software/Linux forum here. Maybe someone there will have the info you need.
I've connected both my Dell Dimension E510 and my home built with an Intel motherboard via UBUNTU (running from the CD) and no problems.

Hi Fireberd,
Thanks for the info. I will have to look elsewhere to fix my problem.Which is trying to connect to the internet using ubuntu.
