Optiplex GX270 - Is there a USB boot option in bios ?
Hi,
My Optiplex GX270 Small form factor base unit does not allow me to boot via a USB device
I have checked the Bios Configuration and I cant seem to be able to a USB item to the boot list.
I find this quite strange bcos most pc's that i have come in contact with will low you to do this.
Further when you press the F12 key, the bootable list does not contain a USB device bootable option !
I have updated to the latest BIOS and still no joy
any ideas?
Thanks

If the usb stick is not properly formatted it will not boot.
Older bios tend to Not Like Booting anything but FAT16 so 2 gigs is max for bootable flash.
Newer Bios can see FAT32 so that Limit is removed.
There is also a 2TB limit.
Dos, SYSLINUX 4.xx/ etc are useful for this.
The original SYSLINUX, used for booting from FAT filesystems (such as floppy disks and USB drives).
ISOLINUX, used for booting from CD-ROM ISO 9660 filesystems.
Boot and run Linux from a USB flash memory stick | USB Pen Drive ...
