Recovering files

My husband right clicked on "Delete Files" through Outlook Express, clicked "yes" when asked if he wanted to empty the recycle bin - and POOF all of his and my daughter's emails disappeared! I've used System Restore and searched for the files in temp folders, etc. but can't find them. Are they really gone forever????

If you haven't written anything to disk since the deletion (unlikely) you could perhaps use Norton Utilities to recover the files. But, my experience is that this successful recovery is unlikely, perhaps a 1% chance.
