it's more comprehensive than Nvidia's built in driver funciton. Essentially, riva tuner uses the driver function to it's full extent. if you just enable the driver functionality, it will only use some features, and not all of them.
Rivatuner also allows you to monitor your systems temps and what kind of performance you get out of your card. It's a very nifty feature/
