Sound for my desktop still isnt working

I have an Optiplex 170 L.Ive went on the site and downloaded the correct audio driver for my desktop.I try to install and it ask me to replace folders and it installs fine and asks me to reboot. So i reboot and a notification pops up and always says"No ADI Codec Found,Installation failed".This happens everytime I try to install soundmax...But the unusual part is that SoundMax shows up as prperly wroking device in device manager and Sounds & Devices..BUT its being identified by my desktop as "Unknown Device". Any ideas/solutions on how to fix this problem would be highly appreciated

Hi Chillinchillin,

First, if you can, uninstall the sound drivers you just installed. Then uninstall all devices under sound and reboot. Next run the sound driver installation routine.

OK I have done that.It still list soundmax as an "unknown device in device manager. There isnt even a tab in the device manager that says "sound and audio".
