Soundblaster x-fi

Has anyone had this problem?  My sound has gone out.  Initially it was crackling and popping, then I got a loud noise, (Kind of like the sounds they use to check your hearing, only loud!).  Then I lost sound altogether.  I tried plugging and replugging my speakers.  I reinstalled Windows and all drivers, and when attempting to reinstall sound drivers, it went to a blue screen of death.

I had contacted Dell chat once, they told me to turn off integrated audio, which I did, but it didn't help.

Thanks,

Do you have XPS 700?

I have xp600...however, I actually fixed this.  Just on a hunch, I opened up my computer and put the sound card in a different slot. (I noticed at that time that the top part of the card did not fit into it's fitting very tight).  Reinstalled the drivers, and now I have sound!
