Time to upgrade Video Card, need a little help

After online gaming about an hour, my Card starts making a growling noise.  I can lean the computer over and the noise stops, or close the game and the noise will stop.

I'd like to upgrade my 32mb GeForce2 MX 4X AGP to something better yet afordable.

Any suggestions are appreciated

What games are you looking into playing? Better yet, are there any games in the future that look interesting to you?

6600 GT card should be all that you need for that older Dim 4300 system.  Cost around $135.00 on up, depending on the card manufacture.   You will need to hook up a molex Y cable from the back of the video card and the other end to a power connector either from the power supply or an extra connector next to the cdrw or dvd drive.  Some cards come with the molex cable and some do not.

Another card that you might want to get, but less game capable is the 6600 card, which is still better than what you have now.  Both of these cards will work with the stock 250 watt power supply you have, or just upgrade that as well if you wish

Dim 4400
2.6 Ghz 400 FSB
1 Gb 2100 DDR memory
Windows XP Home
17 inch 1703 FP monitor
XFX 7800 GS O/C AGP
48x CDRW
16x DVD-R
410 watt ( PcPower&Cooling )

Is there much of a difference between the 6600 and the 6600GT?  Is that an NVidia Card?  I have to admit that I dont know what a Molex Y cable is.  Do I have an adequate power supply for it? And how complicated is it?

Thanks for you help

I'm currently playing online multiplayer Call Of Duty United Offensive.  Believe it or not, it actually plays very well.  Its just that recently it started making this growling noise, and has crashed a couple of times.  My 4 yr old plays online on PlayhouseDisney and we get the same growling noise.  I'm assuming its the Video Card, I could be wrong.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16812189002  This is what a molex Y power cable looks like.   Some card manufactures have them included with the video card you buy and some do not.  If they do not, it does not cost all that much.

The 6600 is a step down from the 6600 GT card, and you will see a difference in gaming experiece with the GT model.....Both cards are nVidia

I went to Newegg and read some reviews on the 6600GT.  Everyone seemed to rave about it.  I did see some issues with Power Supply.  Is my 250 watt enough?  If not, can I upgrade that too?

I, and many others have or had this 6600 GT card using our stock 250 watter without problems.  Try to leave a pci slot next to the card empty for better cooling.  Our stock 250 watter is the mean average as has been reported by a Dell Moderator and the peak power is around 345 watts.   If you add a lot of other hardware ( Optical drives, hard drives ) to your system, then you might need a power supply upgrade.  I also ran a X800GTO card, more power hungry than the 6600 GT card on my 250 watter without issues.  One member has the better 7800 GS card on his 250 watter.  You should be fine.  If not, its easy to upgrade the power supply later.  Good luck
