What is the cheapest video card that will work in a Dell Studio XPS 8100?

The 5770 card in my Studio XPS 8100 appears to be dying.  The display keeps getting corrupted and I can't do anything until I reboot, then it happens again after a couple minutes.  I have a corsair cx430 power supply installed.

The only weird thing I noticed is that when booted in safemode the display seems to work just fine.

This machine is my server machine, so I only need to do minimal work directly on the machine.

I'm thinking that I should just replace the video card.  What is the cheapest / most basic video card that will work in my 8100?

Thank You,

Jamie

The Sapphire 6450 is a great budget video card.

For this purpose, the 6450 is quite sufficient.

Power supply requirement for your Video adapter

  • 450 Watt or greater power supply with one 75W 6-pin PCI Express® power connectors recommended (600 Watt and two 6-pin connectors for AMD CrossFireX™ technology in dual mode)

I'm not sure what your referring to that needs a 450 watt or greater supply.

I have the stock 5770 OEM Video card installed from the factory.  The powersupply that was installed from the factory was 300 some watts.  When the power supply died last year I I replaced it with the larger 430 watt power supply.

I'm not sure if it is the AMD brand card or not.  I think it is just called the: ATI Radeon HD 5770 1024MB card in the specs I can see online for this computer.

But it is the card that came from dell with the computer.

The cheap card is great for me as long as it works in this machine.
