Windows 8 System Restore disc fails to boot

I have a brand new XPS8500 with SSD, hard drive and Intel rapid Storage Technology. I thought I would create a SYSTEM RESTORE DISC for safety should anything happen to the OS and I need to emergency boot.

This CD (have also tried DVD) creates normally and I see a file structure on the disc:

BOOT directory
EFI directory
SOURCES directory
BOOTMGR file
BOOTMGR.EFI file

Trouble is, the XPS8500 and other systems WILL NOT BOOT OFF THIS CD - non-system disc or disk error.

Why is this not working ?

Get a 16 gig or larger USB Flash Drive and make that the recovery media.  Boot from the USB Flash.

UEFI hates DVD's  This problem is Specific to windows 8.

A Windows 8 DVD may not start in UEFI mode ... - Microsoft Support

The UEFI firmware cannot recognize the DVD as UEFI bootable media because the ISO image contains only the standard boot image for BIOS-based systems.

To work around this issue, we recommend that you create 16 GIG or larger USB bootable media instead of DVD media for booting in UEFI mode.  Smaller than 16 gig wont work because its not enough space.

I recommend a SanDisk Cruzer Fit 16 GB USB Flash Drive SDCZ33-016G-B35.
