XPS 420 Orange power light
Hi guys new to the forum - Steve
I have an 18 month old XPS 420 - the power light started flashing orange. PSU is flashing green at back of unit but when button pressed operates fine.
Phoned Dell support and was told it was the motherboard
They said $400.00 AU for new board and $200 AU to fit
I was wondering if there are any alternatives for this board that will work or if anybody else has had a similar problem.
Fix is pretty expensive

A blinking amber power button LED usually indicates a power problem, or failing power supply, first try opening the case and remove and reconnect all the power connectors to drives and motherboard and see if that makes a difference.
Are any of the Diagnostic lights on the top bezel lite, do the fans run?

The XPS 420 has a Dell BTX motherboard, with proprietary features, there is no retail equivalent available

I check eBay Australia and found Dell OEM XPS 420 motherboards, for sale.

Hi thanks for that.
So i saved up for the new motherboard and put it in.
The problem that i first had went away and it started to boot up.
Then it re booted itself and started the windows boot recovery process.
Re started a few times but taking ages and i fell asleep.
When i woke the power light was flashing 3 times and the lcd panel at the top had the error message
memory modules are detected but a memory failure has occured.
Just a footnote, when i entered the bios the cpu and memory was detected but it said no hard drive or cd rom when i went into boot options?
This was before the memory thing
