XPS 8500, RAM installation not working

I own a dell xps 8500, which I got a fair few years ago now, but I have been slowly upgrading the RAM and graphics card as time has gone on. Today I wanted to install 4 hynix 8gb 2rx4 pc3 RAM sticks (HMT31GR7CFR3C-H9). When I installed them they did not seem to be detected, and the computer kept giving me 2 beeps when I turned it on. I reinstalled some of the old RAM and it worked fine. So, I was wondering if perhaps my computer is limited to the amount/type of RAM that can be installed ?
