XPS 8500 post going from a few seconds up to a minute with WD Elements USB 3 HD

Hi, guys, I been seeing a small problem with my XPS-8500 when booting with a WD Elements USB 3 hard drive. When I connect it during post the boot goes from a few seconds up to one minute. It looks like it is trying to access the HD during this time, but even a reset (CTRL-ALT-DEL) does not work untils finished. Besides this, I'm not seeing any other problems, so I'm wondering if this behavior is normal or could be a issue with the BIOS. Thanks!

I suspect that your PC is trying to boot from the USB device and the delay is while it finds there isn't a bootable partition. If you are going to keep a USB device attached to your PC, then you should go into the BIOS setup (F2 at start up) and amend the boot sequence to remove or demote the USB port.  Page 119 et seq. of the user manual tells you how.
