Tap F12 repeatedly as soon as you reboot without waiting for any screen to get to the boot menu to select the cd-dvd drive.

Donniejt,

You will need to boot into the bios and change the Boot Mode in the System Setup from Legacy to UEFI Mode.

How to enable boot from DVD option with UEFI boot mode enabled. (Windows 8, 8.1 & 10)

F12 boot does not work until secure boot is off and legacy boot is on.

Windows 10 64 bit dvd's do not need this setting.

Thank you. When I set  Secure boot off, I get a warning message about booting may fail if this option is off. Is this a concern?

I am set to UEFI boot. I do not get the boot display that you show in step 3. I cannot enter a new boot option.

UEFI Secure boot does not allow ANY options other than Windows 8 /10.

The F12 menu is DISABLED when Secure boot is on.

That is not correct. I have secure boot on and I get the F12 menu with the option of boot from my dvd drive as long as the dvd is already loaded with my recovery disk.

You may have to add it to the Boot Context via F2 CMOS Setup.

How to enable F12 boot from DVD option with UEFI boot mode enabled. (Windows 8, 8.1 & 10)

Select Boot Mode

Add Boot Option

Steps are provided below:

  1. Boot mode should be selected as UEFI (Not Legacy)
  2. Secure Boot set to Off

A new window will appear with 'blank' boot option name.

Name it "CD/DVD/CD-RW Drive"

Note: In the File System List field select the option with "CD" at the end.

Example: "PciRoot (0x0)/Pci (0x1F, 0x2)/Sata(0x3,0x0,0x0)/CD"

  • Leave the File Name entry blank.

Now using tab key highlight YES and hit < ENTER >

Press < F10 > key to save settings and restart.

The system will restart.

Tap the < F12 > key on startup for boot menu, DVD option will be there under UEFI

Note: Alternatively if you see an onscreen message to 'Press any key to boot from CD/DVD'
Press enter to proceed.
