no mixer devices found

i had sound when  dell delivered my computer. when i needed to replace my hard drive i now have no sound, not even system sounds.  first - what is a mixer device, how do i get one and how do i put it in my computer?

Sounds like you've installed the operating system on your new drive, but haven't installed the drivers for your hardware yet.    The "mixer device" would be your audio driver.

The link below explains in general what drivers you need to install and in what order.   You can either download the drivers from the Drivers and Downloads page at support.dell.com, or use the Drivers and Utilities disk that should have come with your PC to install them.

Can't be more specific than that without knowing what model computer you have and what operating system.
