Is it possible to moving from EMCSA to EMCTA (or reverse) without retaking a test?

I'm wondering if a person current has an EMCSA Symmetrix Specialist certification as a customer and become an EMC partner do they need to re-take the EMCTA Symmetrix Specialist test in order to take the EMCTA Symmetrix Expert?

What about the inverse,  going from EMCTA to EMCSA?

While i'm at it,  is there any change the certification frameworks will be merges to no longer delineate between customers and partners?

Hi Mark - the certification framework does not so much delineate between partners and customers as it is designed as a role based program.  We view certification as a representation of readiness to perform a role. This type of program takes into account a number of factors that are unique to a specific role. Within each role, it is possible to build upon previously earned certifications by moving through our Associate, Specialist and Expert certifications.

Each certification has its own set of requirements.  The requirements to achieve EMCTA Symmetrix Expert certification can be found here as well as in your CertTracker account.  In your CertTracker account, click on Credentials > Credential Catalog.  Clicking on any credential name will open up the certification requirements.

Best of luck in your transition!

It's actually for a newly highered team member. He is currently EMCTA Symmetrix Specialist.  Now that he is a customer and not a partner,  he can't presure the EMCTA track anymore.  We're mostly wondering if to get the EMCSA Symmetrix Expert if he would need to take the EMCSA Specialist... Since, while they are different tracks, they are very similar..

Hi Mark - while the EMCSA Symmetrix and EMCTA Symmetrix certifications are based on the same product the curriculum and exams are geared to different roles.  The requirements for each certification are different and not transferable.  In order to earn the EMCSA Symmetrix Expert credential, your colleague will need to meet the requirements for that credential. Currently, the requirements for earning Storage Administrator, Symmetrix Solutions Expert Version 6.0 (EMCSAe) are:

  • Storage Administrator, Symmetrix Solutions Specialist Version 6.0 (EMCSA)
  • [E20-814] Symmetrix Solutions Expert Exam for Storage Administrators
