Authentication to use feeds

When I try to reach

https://community.emc.com/community/feeds/allcontent?community=2439  - no matter with IE or with Firefox -

my browser pops up a username/password dialog (Authentication required for https://community.emc.com/).

When I fill in the username and password which I'm using to login through https://community.emc.com/community/support/documentum or through https://powerlink.emc.com/ the page reject them , and ask again (of course with the same reason I can NOT validate the feed in my feedreader).

SO , what username and password should I fill in ?

Hi,

because our ECN sessions are authenticated by Powerlink, we need to be logged in to ECN before any of the privileged-access content is made visible.  It also means that you cannot automate the login through your RSS reader.

One way to make this work is to make the content always accessible to all users, as /;.

Thanks,
Erich

Hi. Erich

"Use the links below to subscribe to RSS feeds for this community. For private communities, you'll need to append your username and password to the feed URL or use a desktop feed reader that supports private feeds."

The above text is written in feeds section, which is just the opposite to yours ".. you cannot automate the login through your RSS reader."

Which one is TRUE ?

And if it's the first, WHAT username & password should I use ? (that was my original question)

Hi again,

that's a good catch - the text is out-of-date.

When ECN was first rolled out, there was no Powerlink integration, and user IDs were maintained separately and locally to this platform.  In fact, many users still access ECN with those credentials.  For them, the text would be accurate, and they can log into the RSS feeds using the ECN-specific ID and password.

But for the Support Forums, where Powerlink-based authentication is currently required, this is not an option because the RSS readers have no way of handling the external authentication.  As such, there's no way for you to set up a self-authenticating feed of the Support Forums area of ECN.  If you have  Powerlink-tied ECN account, this would be true across all ECN content, where it's not publicly visible.

I hope this explains the contradiction.  I've passed this along as a requested to update the text.

RSS is one of the reasons opening these up is one of my biggest hopes for this upcoming year.

Thanks,
Erich
