Correct, don't use GbE switch uplink ports for 10GbE arrays.    It might  connect, but performance and stablity will very likely suffer.   Thus has been the experience of other customers who have tried to do it.

And that what Don meant (and I did too); do NOT use 10Gbit ports on a 1Gbit (native) switch for a 10Gbit SAN.

Get a 10Gbit switch (if from Dell, check into an 8132... for a 10Gbit switch, they are very affordable and definitely pretty decent.

Uplink ports are not supported for 10Gbit SANs. It may work, but really should not be used due to performance issues that will likely result. Don will probably be able to provide more details.

You'll want to look into getting a validated 10Gbit switch from the Equallogic compatibility matrix (en.community.dell.com/.../2661.equallogic-compatibility-matrix-07262013.aspx).

The uplink ports aren't designed to handle 10GbE iSCSI traffic.  Dropped connections, high retransmission rates, poor performance are the result.   You'll need a proper 10GbE switch.

A 10G Port of a PS6110 doesnt negotiate with a 1GbE Port of every switch.

The PC6248(24) can hold 2 modules where there first one goes away for the stacking kit and for the 2nd one you can buy a Dual SFP+ module. The modules are placed on the back of the switch.

Keep in mind that the PC6248 is at the end of its life time so spending moeney there is like riding a dead horse. Also its not the best ISCSI switch from dell and please dont connect more than 2 eqls this switch.

Joerg

Hi Joerg,

But in PC 6224 specifically, there is  NO 10G SFP+ module what it has is 4x 10G SFP+ UPLINK ports.

They called  the 10G SFP+ "uplink" and the 10GBase-T "Module". Is there a different? If so use the BaseT Ports of the PS6110. But again.. .the PC62xx isnt a great ISCSI switch.

Joerg

You can, as long as you have the dual 10GbE SFP+ module.
