EQL iSCSI login failures after MS patches KB4497934 --KB4499177 --KB4503267
There are currently three MS KBs that once installed result in iSCSI login failures with Dell PS Series arrays
Server 2019 -- KB4497934
Server 2016 --KB4499177
Server 2016 --KB4503267 - Released June 11
At this time the only resolution is to remove the KB and iSCSI logins will complete.
Regards,
Don

Hello,
No other than Dell has been investigating and so far has found no array side issue to explain this.
Strongly suggest opening a case with MS as well. Increase the visibility of the problem to them.

Don

Dell and Microsoft are aware of the issue and are working on it. For the time being all that can be done is remove the KBs in question and wait for Microsoft to issue the fixed update.

Hello Kayden,
Correct, as both threads on this indicate. I only added this thread when a 3rd KB also may cause the issue.

Confirmed removing both KB4499177 and KB4503267 from Windows Server 2016 v1607 restored a working iSCSI connection to our PS-M4110 SAN. I am running the server in an ESXi 6.5 environment.
Previously Event ID 43 from iScsiPrt filled the event log: "Target failed to respond in time for a login request."
Thank you for posting this.

So has anyone experienced removing these updates not fixing the problem? I have a couple of servers that are still experiencing issues after removing these updates. I actually rebuilt one of them, and it is still having problems.
One of my Server 2012 R2 servers is also showing the same issues. They worked fine up until patches.
One of the SAN's is a 6100, and one is a 6000.

Hello,
I would open a support case for this. And look for any other KBs at the time of the problem. First issues were reported in the May time frame and again with some June KB releases.
I also just posted this thread about KB4503294
https://www.dell.com/community/EqualLogic/iSCSI-login-failures-after-MS-Patch-KB4503294-installed/m-p/7319814#M13880

Is this only an issue with Server 2016 and Windows 10 systems? I have 2 2008R2 servers that are critical. Currently they show as relevant for :
KB4505050
KB4503259
KB4503269
KB4503292
I can't find anything on these, so I may have to cross my fingers and update them...

Hello,
There have been no reported cases with W2K8R2.
All the KBs I've seen are for Windows 10, 2016, 2019.

Looks like an update for Windows Server 2016 is just around the corner, MS just released updates for WS2019 and all the versions of Windows 10 except build 1607 so maybe later today or tomorrow.

Hello,
Also KB4503294 Seems to include one of the problematic KBs. But you don't see those until you remove KB4503294 first.

Don

It appears this update Microsoft released today resolves the issue.
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4509475
I applied this on my Windows Server 2016 box that was having this issue and issue is resolved with the above update.
