We have installed VMware Tools in all VMs and have also a proper Switch configuration so our ESXi Hosts tolerate the 10sec. "downtime" of the storage connection. The controller failover takes less than 10sec. here and only 4 pings are missed.

We do FW upgrades in a low IO periode. I have to manage 25 EQLs and we perform FW upgrade without shuting down the Cluster. I disable HA "Host monitoring" as well as E-Mail Notification from vCenter for that time.

Yes the 7.0.5 is the latest public available version. 2 Days ago the FW Drive Kit 5.0 comes out so you may take a took if your drives are on the list. If so upgrade the drives first.

Yes, also the drives can upgraded without shutting down anything. The drive kit checks for affected drive and do one after another.

Yes, you can upgrade directly from 6.0.8 to 7.0x

You will see the Services Tag under Member->Maintenance in the EQL Groupmanager. Go to dell.com/support and see if you have a valid support contract. Check www.dell.com/.../Contact-Information how to contact Dell Support. If nothing helps use the support link after you logged into https://eqlsupport.dell.com

Did you seen a "Comunication link lost " failure too? If so the 7.x release contains various Bugfixes in this area and you should consider an upgrade.

I also sugget to create the Diagnostic files and open an [tag:SR] so Dell can investigate whats going on.

Joerg

If this was a one time event than dont panic. The 2nd. controller reboots because of a "problem".

You have to open a support case at Dell. If the *.dgo lis ess than 10MB your can sent them to your supporter by mail. Otherwise they provide a account for their fileexchanger.dell.com for uploading stuff.

You can enable the "Call to home" feature within the EQL Groupmanager as well as the "Support Assist" in SANHQ. Both can helps because the system automaticy create a support case and sometime we dont need to send latest Diagnostics because Dell Support is alread aware of the problem.

Ok.. the last one was a stupid question because you already see the unwanted reboot of the 2nd. controller.

All PS41xx, PS61xx and PS62xx  use the 64bit code right now. If you check the download page of the firmware you will see a list for the models and which FW they use.

Also the EQL Groupmanager protect you there because you cant  upload the wrong version to a member when using the GUI.

BTW. you have a member with dual controllers right?

Joerg

Iam not sure if i understand this question correctly.  Yes you can upgrade a EQL without shutting your Virtual Infrastructure which means all VMs can be up and running.

Again... choose a period where the array perform low IOPs. Yes, this is where SANHQ comes into the game because it shows you whats going on.
