Hard Disk caddies for a PS4000
I've just taken over a PS4000. It currently has 8TB installed and needs to be upgraded. The new hard disks have already been bought but we don't have any caddies/trays for them. Can anyone tell me what part number I need to order to get the trays?
Regards,
Jimmy

Thanks, that makes sense.

When you buy the drives (from Dell), they come with the carriers. Putting in non-Dell drives voids your warranty, so the only real choice is to buy them from Dell (with the carriers).

Aside from the warranty issues, is there not a firmware lockout of bare drives in the ps4000?

To be honest, I'm not sure. I've never tried 'generic' drives in an PS-box (the logs register which serial numbers are inserted, and if a non-Dell drive shows up in the eventlogs even once, and Dell support 'catches' you, it could mean you lost your warranty; I prefer not to risk that.
I do know that the Dell|EMC AX100 didn't have a drive/firmware lock, but the AX150 did. Later AX systems (and all CX-systems) have had drive locks, as does the Dell PowerVault MD3000/MD3000i.
