Manual drive failover in PS6010

Hello all,

I am wondering if there is a way to perform a manual drive fail-over to hot-spare in a PS6010XV with 16 x 600 GB 15K SAS disk drives installed..  When a PS6010XV enclosure that has encountered 3 drive failures in the past 4 weeks.  We have received replacement drives via EQL support and I have asked support to look if there is anything unusual happening to cause the drives to fail.  I got back from support that it is normal drive failure.  I have a PS6110XV with 24 x 600 GB 15K SAS drives that is not in use at the moment and is powered off.  The drives in both enclosures are even the same part number.  I would like to use 16 of the drives in the PS6110XV and replace them in the PS6010XV over time.  Is there a way that I can manually fail a max. of 2 drives, in the PS6010XV  (total number of hot spares is 2), so the hot spares take over, take 2 drives from the PS6110XV and put them in the PS6010XV.  This way I can replace all the drives in the PS6010XV, 2 at a time, over a period of time.

Thanks,

Eric.

Hi don,

Fair enough.  If I wanted to replace the PS6010XV with the PS6110XV, how would I go about doing this?

Thanks,

Eric.

This is one of the great strength of EQL.

1. Add the new member to the Group

2. Placed it into the same pool where the member is which you would like remove

3. Select "remove member" and the system will vacuate all data if there is enough space left in the pool

If you place the member into a different pool you can move one Volume after another by "hand".

Joerg
