PS6010 EqualLogic in Production with 8 300GB SAS HDD, Customer wants to add 8 more HDD
Hi,
With reference to above noted subject our respected customer have one PS6010 storage in production with 8 300GB HDD & now he is out of space, so my question is:
How to add 8 more 300GB HDD in same raid group?
Is it possible after add new HDD to increase the current LUN size without lossing data?
What about HotSpare Drive ID, it will be the same or it will be change?
With Thanks & Regards, Waiting for your response

Good morning,
Yes, you can purchase 8 more drives from Dell, for that chassis. Once the drives are installed the RAIDset will be expanded into the new drives automatically. Once that finishes, you will have access to the new space. You can then expand volumes or create new ones. The drive that is the hotspare now will remain so. Depending on the RAID level, you may gain an additional spare. I.e. RAID-50.

Actually, an enclosure with 8 drives that was set up as raid 50 (or raid 10) has 2 hotspares already, so adding 8 drives still yields 8 drives in space.
From what I've seen going from 8 to 16 drives (w/o changing the raid type) will just give you all 8 extra drives in space.
