Hi EMC Experts,

Are there any performance benefits to going to xPlore?

Katie,

The addition of Documentum xPlore to the ApplicationXtender family brings us great performance increases to full-text processing.  The OCR process can now use up to four processors vs. 1 previously.  Full-text processing can use up to 16 processors!  Documentum xPlore 1.3 Service Pack 13 runs on a physical or virtual  VMware Windows 2008 R2 SP1 64-bit environment.  It is best in a high volume environment to have a dedicated machine for this processing.

In fact, if necessary the OCR and full-text processes can be run on separate and multiple machines to improve performance even further!

In performance testing, we have been seeing performance increases of 2 to 4 times faster OCR and full-text processing vs. the old Verity K2 platform!  We look forward to hearing real world performance numbers as our customer base migrates from Proindex and Verity to Documentum xPlore in AX 7.

Here's another question for the experts...

Is there a conversion utility to move from ProIndex / Verity to xPlore?

Katie,

The answer to this question is yes and no.  There is no magical way to move information from the old full-text environment to xPlore.  However, by using the Full-Text Index wizard, a migration can be staged by application and subset of documents.  The OCR files that were previously produced with ProIndex / Verity will NOT need to be redone and thus will save considerable time during the migration.  Speaking of which, the full-text search capability against the ProIndex / Verity collections are STILL active while the migration is occurring (if desired).  In other words, no downtime is necessary!
