On connection compatibiltiy:

It's true that the Content Server, DocBroker, and DFC need to be set to use either native, anonymous SSL, or certificate SSL modes.  When the DFC app is configured for certificate SSL mode, it needs an extra trust store defined in the dfc.properties file and it will not connect to servers configured for anonymous SSL - the mixed SSL mode is not supported.  However it is still possible to run 6.7 SP2 content servers in native connection mode, run 7.1 content servers in certificate SSL mode and have the same DFC app talk to both.

You may consider that solution restrictive.  As mentioned in other posts, we need to balance the impact of adding new capabilities against the impact of changing what works for existing solutions.  I like your suggestions that clean up the complexities while maintaining the flexibility to move forward and be backwards compatible.  The team will be considering them in the future. Thanks.

Sorry for any confusion.  When I meant coming soon, I was referring to the Dev Edition for Documentum.  There have been many people working on revising this offering, packaging up the core necessities in one VM, and removing all other  licensing restrictions and costs that would be incurred with other packages and licensing.  That said, we are now finalizing the distribution channel, testing downloads, and making sure that the final staging is ready.

I believe that this offering will help with three key cases:

1. Rapid deployment of Development Sandboxes: Not everyone is as talented as some of you.  And besides who can't use two extra days.
2. Accelerated POC development for custom applications.
3. Quick Start education tool for Developers new to Documentum 7.

There will be future refreshes of this Edition and additional flavors are being planned.   I don't know when a DEV Edition with D2 or xCP will be available. I hope you agree that an xCP Dev Edition can be significantly complex with more moving parts that can cleanly fit on a single VM.  And it defintely helps now that we have a Dev Edition for Documentum that can act as a base.

The teams involved are definitely interested in your feedback - especially what you'd like to see in future refreshes.  The release will include a community area to capture and discuss the feedback.

I had been configuring two way SSL with taskspace. The useless WDK documentation had 10 errors in 2 pages. Then I opened an SR, spent 3 weeks with writing. Finally, it was found out that WDK does not support it. Why don't you write it from the beginning?

Actually, that's not true. I bet you are talking about these two posts: WDK documentation makes me cry and UCF ssl error. I have taken a look at document(s) you was referring,  and would like to say following:

1. When customer wants two implement two factor ssl authentication, he assumes that end-users will have special removable storage (i.e. token) for ssl certificates, and a try to store ssl certificates somewhere outside security token will completely screw up the whole idea of using two factor ssl authentication.
2. UCF applet does support JKS storage only, so, the person, who wrote documentation you was referring, didn't understand security principles
3. It's possible to implement what you want by making some UCF-related urls "insecure".

I mean exactly what you say.

They said extract the private key from the smart card and put it in a JKS keystore on the clients machine.*****. In this case, the purpose looses its meaning. What the token is for? Anyone who can has access to the machine can go to the repository without it. Even, he can copy the keystore including the ucf.config.xml which has the password, and access it from a different host too..

Finally, I realized that even if it works, it is inappropriate to our original goal.

The worst is that, I have wasted several days because of the poor documentatin. Does EMC read them before they are published?

What is the problem to put your application server behind Apache Httpd and write in httpd.conf something like:

SSLVerifyClient require

  
  SSLVerifyClient none

Unfortunately, most of Documentum "features" are just formally declared rather than really work, and it's not about documentation, it's about standards, best practices and common sense.
