MD3000 Hotspare rules

Hi

We are planning a deployment and are finding this question somewhat had to answer. What are the rules with a hot spare disk? Can it be used across SAS and SATA LUN groups. If the hotspare is 450 GB for instance, can it also service a LUN comprised of 146 GB disks? Can it be used with RAID1, RAID5 and RAID10 sets?

Thanks

A hotspare is required for each type - SAS and SATA. As long as the hotspare is the same size or bigger than the failed disk, it can be used. Hotspares can be used to repalce a failed disk regardless of the RAID type.
