Upgrade Dell PowerVault NX3000

All,

I have a PowerVault NX3000 with Windows Storage Server 2008 R2 installed on it.  Can an in-place upgrade to Storage Server 2012 R2 be accomplished?  Any known driver problems?

Thanks in advance for the help,

Jamie

Hello Jamie,

With the NX3000 it was not tested using WSS2012R2. Now with that being said you should be able to upgrade the system to WSS2012R2 & should not haven issues but since it wasn’t tested I can’t say for sure that it will work. Also I am not sure if you can do an in-lace upgrade and not have any issues.

Now the NX3000 is a Poweredge R710 server & there are drives that do support 2012R2 so you could try those drivers if you ran into any issues driver wise.

Please let us know if you have any other questions.

Sam,

Why are there no Windows Server 2012 R2 drivers for the Dell R710 on the Dell site?

Since there are no drivers for the R710, will the System Update Utility work for the drivers?  The Update Utility says it supports the NX3000 so I would say yes based on you saying the NX3000 is a R710.

Am I correct?

I did find that Windows Server 2012 R2 had all of the hardware drivers for the R710. Unless I need to update, no drivers are needed at this point.

The System Update Utility will not work on the R710.  I tried yesterday.  I will try to use it today on the NX3000 since it says it is a supported device.

Will post my findings.

The System Update Utility did not work on the NX3000 so it is not a supported device.

I guess there are no Server 2012 R2 drivers for the R710 provided by Dell .
