4150 Error Code #M1004

Hi, today, my computer shutdown automatically because of overheat. When I restart my computer, an error code #M1004 was shown on the screen. Does anyone have the same experience before, what's the meaning of #M1004? Thanks!

That just means that you have thermal problems.  Upgrade the BIOS and then call Dell.

Go  and download the M1004A01.exe file.  This will get rid of that error message.

Hi, thanks for your guys. I downloaded a new BIOS from Dell, after doing fan and sensor test, now everything is OK. Wonderful! In fact, I called Dell two times, the representatives were polite but not so useful.

Below are the steps I have done:

1. Run Dell Diagnostic software, two tests failed: fan test and thermal sensor test

2. Blow off the dust using compress air, this is the real cause of over heat. Now the machine is cooling down, but the fan kept running at high speed.

3. Download the latest A06 Inspiron 4150 BIOS and update it. Now after system restart, the computer is much quiet and the temporature is under normal range 42c.

Thank you for the help.

The forum is really useful.

It's good to hear that you got your system back to normal.

if your BIOS is up to date and your fan is still operational do two things first use a can of compressed air and blow the dust out of the Fan through the vents if possible and then  download and install 18kfanGUI(http://www.diefer.de/i8kfan/index.html) utility and adjust the settings or just set the utility to force the fan to always run at  high speed
