Connecting External Monitor to Inspiron E1505
I want to connect a Dell 2311 monitor to an Inspiron E1505. Ports on laptop include HDMI, network, and (4) USB. Ports on monitor are DisplayPort, DVI, VGA.
Does laptop support external monitor? What is best way to connect? Is there an HDMI to DisplayPort cable or HDMI to DVI cable, or is there some kind of USB adapter?

The E1505 has a VGA connector - just use a VGA cable.

Sorry. My error...pulled an old packing slip. My laptop is a Dell 15R Touch. I do understand touch won't work on the external monitor I have.

You can use a displayport to HDMI or DVI -- whichever you'd like.

I have to go from a USB or HDMI on laptop to a DisplayPort or DVI on the monitor. Viewing potential cables on line it appears some are one way. Question is does the 15R laptop support going from HDMI or USB to DisplayPort or DVI

I think I got my answer from this thread.

Looks like HDMI to DVI-D cable easiest and least expensive way to go.
