Decrease of Battery Life in Vostro 3500..

I have been using a Dell Vostro 3500 for almost 1.5 years now and I'm beginning to notice a significant decrease in battery life. Its now down to 1 hour 30 mins barely compared around 2 hours 30 mins which I used to get before. I do understand that battery life reduces with time but I didn't expect such a reduction in battery life within just 1.5 years..!! Please let me know how to check battery cycles through command prompt as I believe I used to know some command like 'power -cfg' to check battery cycles but now I can't remember..

Hi Arnobde,

Battery is a consumable product and its performance depletes as per usage. You can run a test on battery of Vostro laptop from the link: http://dell.to/UhBp46

  • Click on the link above.
  • Accept the terms and Conditions.
  • Click on Component and select ‘Battery’.
  • Click on Run diagnostics.

In case the diagnostics on battery fails, you may need to replace the battery of your computer.

You can also check the battery health in 'Battery health meter' following steps below:

  • Click on Windows logo on desktop.
  • Type 'Power options' in search bar above that.
  • Click on Power Options.
  • Check for the 'Battery Health Meter' among the different options on the left side of window.
  • Check for battery health. This will tell you the exact status of the battery of your computer.

To improve battery performance, you can follow the steps below:

  • Shut down the computer and take out the battery.
  • Leave the battery out for couple of hours.
  • Put the battery back in and connect the AC adaptor.
  • Without powering on the computer let the system charge overnight and then observe the performance.

If the issue still persists, you can update the BIOS of your computer.

Note: Before flashing the BIOS please check the following:-

  • Battery should have 10% or greater charge
  • Adapter should be connected
  • No external devices should be connected.
  • All other programs should be closed and documents saved.

Click on link to download and update the system BIOS: http://dell.to/QoO8Uj

  • Click on “Get driver”.
  • Select “For Single File Download via Browser”.
  • Save the BIOS on your desktop.
  • Once the BIOS is downloaded on the desktop, right click on it and select “Run as administrator”.
  • Follow the prompts on screen to install BIOS.
  • Restart your computer.
