Disabling ATI HotKey Poller as remedy to slow screen refresh on 600m laptop

The screen on my 600m laptop was taking 6-7 seconds to refresh which I found to be very annoying.  (By refesh I mean upon opening the lid, the screen would be dark and take 6-7 seconds to display an image)  I found that by disabling the ATI HotKey Poller in "Services" the screen no longer shuts off; and since the screen no longer goes dark, it's "up and going" immediately when I raise the lid.  I've gone into power settings and set the screen to go dark after 10 minutes of inactivity so I don't worry about the screen being on when I close the lid. If anyone has a better means of getting a quick screen refresh upon opening the lid, I'd like to hear about it.
