Error message "Check cable connection" when booting
This is Dell Inspiron N4010, just replace a new HD and when booting got error message
"Check cable connection!" PXE-MOF: Exiting Intel PXE ROM.
BIOS is recognizing the HD, What seems to be the problem
Please help

Hi cezu,
This may be an issue with the hard drive, please run the hardware diagnostics to check if the hardware is working as designed. Start tapping the F12 key a few times during startup until you see the ‘One Time Boot Menu’ appear.
At the one time boot menu, press the down arrow key to highlight ‘Diagnostic’, and then press Enter to begin the hardware diagnostics.
If the test fails, please make a note of any error codes listed. You can also refer to the link below.

Hi
I have the same problem. but with my DVD drive.
I went to the bios and Diagnostic it. It says that the system was healthy.
When i place any CD / DVD its not detecting the data.
I placed the Operating System DVD and selected the first boot from CD/DVD.
It says that "Check cable connection!" PXE-MOF: Exiting Intel PXE ROM.
Is there any suggestion ????? from Any one??

Hi Senthil,
Thanks for the information.
But here the case is i am trying to boot the system with CD Drive.
I selected the CD boot option then i am getting the above said error..
My boot with hdd is working great.
Please suggest..

Hi rakeshatdell,
Please change the boot sequence from network boot to hard drive. Follow the steps below.
Tap ‘F2’ as soon as the computer starts to enter the system setup or BIOS
In the Boot options change the network boot to hard drive. Press the ‘F10’ key to save the changes and exit the BIOS screen, when asked to confirm the same, please select ‘Yes’ and press ‘Enter’
Please try the above steps and let me know if you need further assistance.

Please let us know if you’re using the bootable operating system disc or an upgrade operating system disc.

Hey Senthil,
Sorry for the delay in reply..
I am using a bootable cd to install a new copy by formatting thedisk.
I am not able to use the drive so i bought a external dvd drive and installed the OS.
But still i have the same issue..

For all those with this error, just ignore it and when you install an OS, it goes away...

I also need help. My diagnostics is showing no hard drive. I'll smack the bottom of it and it will sometimes work.

If the hard drive wasn't dead when you started doing that, it likely is now.
Unplug the system, remove or disconnect the battery, hold the power button for 30 seconds and then remove and reinstall the hard drive. If it's then seen, power up, press F12, and load the Dell diagnostics.
If the drive doesn't show up after reconnecting it as above, or shows an error in the diagnostics, you'll need to replace it.

I am facing same problem run diagnostic scan as suggested by you ....its says every thing OK and no error codes.should I install my is again.

Hi Senthil,
I am also facing the same issue, diagnostics says all fine and HDD Test: Not Available, inside Bios First HDD is shown blank.
Please help me out.
