Fixing up a Dell Inspiron 1764
So my family has had this Dell Inspiron 1764 floating around for about a year and a half now. Unfortunately, the shell and screen have taken quite a beating, to the point that the case is falling apart and it is only usable when plugged into an external monitor. Given that everything else is pretty much intact internally, would it be much of a stretch to transfer everything over into some kind of desktop case? If so, any recommendations on cases or additional hardware? I do have experience with working inside both desktops and laptops, but never converting the one to the other.

You can replace the worn parts, but there's no way you're going to fit the mainboard into any desktop case, no.

:^/ Obviously, the parts won't be a snap-in fit. Custom case work would have to be done, but if your motherboard has USB ports and an external monitor connection, it should be possible to use a USB keyboard and mouse and external monitor. You'll likely want to remove the battery and connect to main with the adapter, of course.
