Hard Drive: Space lost

Hello: I have a Studio 15 computer which is loosing hard drive space without me adding any programs, or files. I've lost 8 gigs within a two week period.  I am lost and have no idea what is happening.  Can anyone give me an idea on how to stop this process.   Thank you <ADMIN NOTE:Email id removed per privacy policy>

Thanks, but that hasn't worked.  Any other idea?

First question - is it in files or really lost? Use CHKDSK to see if there are lost clusters on your disk. If there is none or very few then check file system - run Windows Explorer (not IE) searching for files created in the last few days, should give you an idea what's taking up space. Can also check directory (folder) sizes - start with top level ones. Right-click menu in Explorer will show you the sizes (among other things).

Also check cache settings in your Web browsers. If you are sure you haven't installed or downloaded anything lately (that includes things like movies, streaming video, TV programs etc) it's still possible that your browsers saves local copies of them in it's cache - check maximum allowed size and how long it keeps things in cache. Flush if needed.

See if it helps.
