Inspiron 1545 hangs shortly after booting.
I ran a check disk and here is the log:
The type of the file system is NTFS.
Volume label is OS.
WARNING! F parameter not specified. Running CHKDSK in read-onlu mode.
CHKDSK is verfying files (stage 1 of 3)...Atrribute record (128, '''') from file record segment 152942sed) is corrupt.
Attribute record (128, '''') from file record segment 162318sed) is corrupt.
1700048 file records prcessed.
File verification cmpleted. 820 large file records processed.
Errors found. CHKDSK cannot continue in read-only mode.
Please advise on how to fix this problem. Even my Webroot Scan detects a problem but computer hangs before it can be removed.
Thanks.

Most likely, it's a dying hard drive. F12 at powerup - boot to the Dell diagnostics and run an extended - NOT just a quick - test.

The hard drive is indeed faulty - you need a new, 2.5" 9.5 mm SATA notebook drive.

Did you reinstall the operating system? Does the BIOS (F2 at powerup) see the drive?

After windows reinstall, computer hangs at "formatting your partition". BIOS does not see the drive.
