The screens are the same - low-end, low-resolution touch panels.

The video on the 15z is a bit faster than on the 15R.

The 1T drive provides twice the data storage;  the 500G+32 mSATA will be faster due to the caching mSATA drive.

You haven't said much about what you want to run on these -- if it's for mainstream office/internet/multimedia work, either is fine.  If you need gaming-class video, neither machine will be up to that task.

Hi AnwenEds,

Configuration wise both the systems are almost similar however you could find the differences below.

System 1 - 15.6in High Definition (1366X768) WLED Touch Display and AMD Radeon™ HD 8730M 2G DDR3

System 2 - 15.6" (39.6 cm) High Definition (720p) LED Touch Display with True life and NVidia® GeForce® GT630M 2G

You could also click on the Rating and Reviews for both the units and compare.

Thanks ejn63.

It will be used mainly for mainstream work - and with some music sorftware such as Sibelius and Audacity - not gaming.  If I used a 500GB external hard drive with the 15z - would it be equal to the 15R for storage.

Just wondering also with the 15z - it has a mic/headphones combo jack.  usually these cause problems when attempting to record with a microphone.  Would this problem be solved if I recorded using a music interface? (I don't record audio often at all)

Hi Harish M

Thanks for your answer.  Please could you help - what's the best screen?  What are the differences between them?

System 1 - 15.6in High Definition (1366X768) WLED Touch Display and AMD Radeon™ HD 8730M 2G DDR3

System 2 - 15.6" (39.6 cm) High Definition (720p) LED Touch Display with True life and NVidia® GeForce® GT630M 2G

Also what's the difference between 1TB 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive and 500GB 5400 RPM SATA HDD and 32GB mSATA SSD

I've already read the reviews and both are similar - just making sure I make the right choice.  Thanks.

An external sound device is likely going to be necessary for anything but the most casual level of audio recording - yes, that will solve the problem.

what about aesthetics, weight, size difference and looks, difference in material used etc., price is not important for me. and how much faster is the computer speed.  thanks

Aesthetics, you'll have to judge.  They're both consumer-grade systems so they're not going to be high-end in finish, details, etc.

Hi veerberry,

You may refer to product comparison Here.

The processing speed of both the systems is same and depends upon the configuration ordered.

The Inspiron 15Z is on lighter side with weight configurable to less than 2.20 kg (4.85 lb) as compared to 15R having weight 2.78 kg (5.07 lb).

Inspiron 15R has Aluminum LCD top cover and palmrest with anodize finish and is available in different colors.

Inspiron 15Z is available in Touch variant.

Hope this helps.
