Inspiron 5100 - ATI 7500 Mobility Radeon Card driver problem

Hello,

I have a problem trying to install the video drivers for my 7500 ATI Mobility Radeon card. I have searched the Forum and not found a question similar to the one that I am posting now: if there is, please excuse my ignorance.

I recently received the Inspiron 5100. I did not want all the additional software  that was installed on the system when I received it: there were things like AOL and other 'nasties'. I reformatted the hard drive and installed a fresh copy of Windows XP Home Edition. Ever since the, I have not been able to install the video drivers for the 7500 video card. I have contacted Dell Tech Support, who have been very helpful so far, but I wanted to post this problem here in case someone may assist.

When I install the video drivers, which installs successfully, and reboot the system, after the 'Welcome' screen comes out, the mouse cursor appears briefly, then dissapears, and the system hangs at this point. I have tried both the official Dell drivers and the Omega drivers: the same situation occurs. Dell support suggested I reinstall the OS: no effect. They then suggested I load all the drivers in order, with the Intel Chipset first. This did not work either. The same error keeps on appearing: the system just hangs there until eventually, after 30 minutes or so, Windows XP finally loads with an error message that says "An error occured while loading. Please save your work and reboot the system". Checking the error message, this points to one of the ATI dll files always: ATIvgasys.dll or something like that.

Any suggestions?
