Inspiron 9300 CPU upgrade

I have a '05 9300 with the Pentium M 740 1.733Ghz chip and wanted to upgrade to the new Duo Core 64bit version.

A few questions-

1) The newer chip's show a FSB of 800, 1066 etc, while my old chip has a 533 FSB, will the Dell MoBo handle the higher speeds?

2) How do I get to the CPU socket?  I tried taking off all the screws in the back and couldn't separate the case.

3) Can I install higher speed RAM then the current DDR2 533, like  say DDR2 800 or DDR2 1066?

Thanks,

Riko

No, that won't work.   You're limited to the Pentium M or Celerons based on it.  The one you linked is a Core-based Celeron.  There are no Pentium M CPUs with EM64T extensions (64-bit).  The Core 2 CPUs are the 64-bit units and you cannot use them.

The Inspiron 9300 can ONLY take a Pentium-M CPU,nothing else.

Thanks dgkpcon,

Looks like this is my only choice, but at least it will let me load my 64bit Vista.

Your welcome, why don't you go with a Pentium-M CPU?...I would preffer that over a Celeron anyday.

Hey Husky?

Check out my link above under specifications.  It says it does have 64 bit architecture.

Let me know if that's correct, 'cause I won't buy it if I can't load my 64 bit copy of Vista.

Thanks,'

I guess the only one neweeg had to fit my 9300 was the celeron.

I'll search other places for the Pentium M.  My goal was to upgrade my laptop with the new 64 bit Vista.

Thanks again,

The Pentium M 780 CPU running at 2.267 GHz is the best you can do in the Inspiron 9300. I replaced the M 760 with the M 780 in mine and noticed significant improvements in performance. The Windows Experience Index subscore for the processor rose from 3.7 to 4.0 with the M 780. Overall latency also was dramatically reduced so my 9300's overall responsiveness is much better.
