Inspiron E1405 Magnetic Hibernation Switch

I was tightening a friends top lid on their Inspiron E1405 and had set the laptop on it's side when a rectangular magnet fell out onto the table. It took me a while to figure out that it was the magnet that the Hibernation Switch uses to sense whether the lid is open or closed.

I can't for the life of me figure out where it needs to go in the lid. I've scoured the internet to no avail. Does anybody have an image or a diagram for where this little half inch magnet is supposed to go in the lid?

For now the laptop works fine, but of course, when you close the lid it won't go to sleep. Not a huge problem, it can always be told to manually, but I feel silly having the magnet but not knowing where to put it.

Please help.

Hi Helovie,

Welcome to the Community. The magnet will come at the Top Center of you LCD bezel on the older models, or on both the top corners of the bezel. The below link should help you with it.

Hope this helps.

Thank you
