Inspiron E1505 semi-freezes

Inspiron E1505

WIndows 7

I say "semi-freezes" because there is no error message or blue screen.  It just locks up.  I'll be in Firefox, and the bar at the top will gray out.  Then I can still highlight icons in the Start Bar, but can't open any of them.  Sometimes the "Show Desktop" button works, sometimes it doesn't.  When I do Ctrl-Alt-Delete, I have to click once to be able to choose start task manager, since trying to launch it via the context menu on the Start Bar doesn't work.  Even then, when I try to close something, I can't even do it immediately.

It's been happening occasionally, and only started within a week.  Any ideas?

Well you may be better off reloading windows, but first do a hardware check on it. Boot the computer and press F12 when you see the Dell logo and run Dell diagnostics. Also do the extended test on the hard drive. Post back any results you get.
