Internal HDD Hard Error!

Hi,

I have a Dell Latitude D610 laptop, running Windows XP SP3, 2GB Ram. The computer was previously running fine, then one day I try to boot up and I get the following error message: Internal HDD Hard Error! I hit F2 and the BIOS shows the hard drive as being "none". I inserted another D610 compatible HD that I knew was in good working condition and got the same error messages. Does anyone have any ideas what the problem is.

Thanks!

When you installed the second drive, did you transfer the blade adapter from the original drive to the new one? If not, make sure you do - or the drive is not connected, and you will see the error.  If that allows a drive to be seen, the original drive is toast.

I transferred the drive from tray that was holding it (unfastened two screws) and attached the tray to the new drive.

enj63,

I went back and took a closer look at the original drive, and the blade adapter was indeed still attached. So I removed it and put it on the new drive, same results.

Thanks.

That suggests the problem is with the system board, not the drives.
