NO response from touchpad/track stick at all, PLEASE HELP inspiron 4000 winxp

I have an inspiron 4000 and I can't seem to get any response from the touchpad or trackstick after installing a new system board. I have tried new drivers, bios updates, and yes, dell representatives I have tried the knowledge base and faq. I have pretty much scoured every corner of dell's website looking for an answer. In windows when i open the synaptics pointing devices properties, the touchpad options are greyed out. In device manager it says synaptics touchpad on ps2 is installed. I have checked the cables connection to the system board and they are all secure. It doesn't make sense, the trackstick is on the same cable as the keyboard and the keyboard works. I need to get this problem solved and I am trying to make sure I have exhausted every option before I go out and buy a new keyboard and touchpad. THIS IS DRIVING ME CRAZY! SOMEONE MUST HAVE AN ANSWER! PLEASE HELP!
