Though you've the latest driver installed,did you try uninstalling and reinstalling it?Since the wireless card is picking up the signals normally it should not be a problem with the wireless card settings.

Antivirus software can conflict with wireless connection.So to confirm is its due to antivirus software,uninstall the antivirus software and check how the wireless works.

If the issue persists access your Router and change the Channel number  and Security key and see if that helps.

I will try uninstalling and re:installing when I feel brave! The problem was the same with the previous Router that I had until recently. I now have a new hub - so I think the problem must be with the PC.

I removed and re-installed the Driver. Not sure if it is any better. I have tried "Sleep" and it needed manual intervention (twice) to connect. After a shut down it managed on its own.

I suggest you can use the system for sometime  and  check if its better after reinstalling the drivers.Also see if uninstalling the antivirus software helps.

It is no better although I haven't uninstalled the antivirus. I often also get the message after being directed to use the troubleshooter that "A problem is preventing the troubleshooter from starting"

So it could be the antivirus software or the Windows itself causing this problem.So first you can try to uninstalling antivirus,if that does not work than you can try reinstalling the Windows.

Both seem a bit drastic without some firm clues that this is the cause of the problem.

So these are just few steps to isolate the problem.Since the wireless card is picking up the signals,i don't think its a hardware problem.so moving onto the software part for the wireless to function you've already reinstalled the drivers  and still the issue persists.Now moving on it could be the antivirus software.If we find that it is not the causing the problem,than we may have to move on to the Windows Operating System.

Following the above steps,will let us find out what is causing this issue and accordingly we can fix it.

When the Troubleshooter operates it says it has "Reset the Network Adaptor"

If it says it has "Reset the Network Adaptor" it just means it has disabled and enabled the Network Adapter.If you're still not able to connect the wireless network,than the trouble shooter is not helping to fix the problem.

I have now tried it with the antivirus (Microsft Essentials) removed and the problem remained.

Since uninstalling antivirus did not help,to eliminate any other possible software issue,now you can try reinstalling the windows.For help to reinstall windows refer to the link below:

Note:If the recovery partion on the HDD is still intact,use PC restore option to restore system to factory settings.

Thanks - I think I will put up with the inconvenience and hope to find a more focussed solution. Reinstall seems like using a sledghemmer to crack a small nut. I would be too concerned about losing such things as e-mail settings and other stuff.

Can you please tell me the make and model of your computer and operating system. 32-bit or 64-bit?

You're using Microsoft Essentials. This is for printers but gets you to the firewall settings. See if it helps. Allow Printer past Microsoft Essentials

Can you run an ipconfig /all log an post it back here.
