PBR y partition causes PC to stop responding

Laptop Studio 1737 running windows 10 stops responding and I see PBR Y partition full. After some time the partition disappears and the PC starts responding again. What's happening?

Are you backing up to that partition (it's the system recovery image, which is of no use now since the OS has been upgraded)?

I have no idea why it happens. Is it the storage for restore points? I know when it appears the system just dies.

I understand the PBR means Push Button Reset but I don't understand the Y.  If that is supposed to be a drive letter, I have seen a drive letter added, usually doing some Windows Updates, but that is normally a Z.

If it happens again, can you get a disk management picture and attach?  Otherwise, how exactly does the system stop responding?
