Power supply compatability
I recently purchased an inspiron 17. I also have an old Latitude 850. In looking at the power sources, they both have the same tech specs except the amp output. The Latitude has 4.62 amps and the Inspiron has 3.34 amps. The Latitude does not show the power jack polarity diagram. I would like to know if they can be used interchangably since they are both 90 watt devices. Ideas anyone? I do not want to screw up my new machine.

Usually as long as you use the same wattages you should be okay. If the system will not work with that AC adapter you will get an error message on boot stating, foreign AC adapter, or AC adapter not recognized. I would recommend if you are going to test it, to remove the battery and test it stand alone with just the AC adapter and the board. If the system powers up and doesn't report any errors I believe you should be okay.
