Quick Question about Inspiron 5150 Chipset Drivers

I own an Inspiron 5150 laptop (Pentium 4, 3.06 GHz, Hyperthreading) and I am getting ready to replace my failing hard drive. I have already backed up my data and I've downloaded all the drivers I will need from Dell.

I have a quick question about the Chipset drivers available for my system...

Before downloading the drivers I checked the Dell Support site to find the recomended installation order for the various drivers, and found this FAQ:

http://www.dellcommunity.com/supportforums/board/message?board.id=cc_faq&thread.id=358

According to this FAQ (and previous Forum posts) the order is:

Notebook System Software
Chipset driver
Video
Etc.

But... when I go to the Drivers Download site there are TWO Chipset Drivers listed there for my laptop:

"Intel Mobile Chipset" (R58370.EXE - Chipset .INF files - Release Date 8/13/2004 - 2MB)

"Intel Mobile Pentium 4" (66367.EXE - ... improves power management... - Release Date 9/23/2003 - 47MB)

My question: Do I install ONE or BOTH of these drivers, and if both, does the order matter?

Thanks for any advice!

Ken

Thanks, Boppo,

One more question... What is the purpose of the "other" driver listed there(R66367, the "Intel Mobile Pentium 4" file that is 47MB)?

Why are both drivers listed for the 5150?

Thanks again!

Ken

Since it is a older driver and requires xp sp1. I would just put the newer on one, that is my opinion.

The second driver adds support for the improved speedstep features. SP2 should have this support native and therefor does not need the driver. it will not be of any harm to install it anyways.

It may not install at all; my 5160 has the same driver listed, and was shipped with Win XP sp2.  I replaced the hard drive recently, had to install the chipset, but when I tried to install the mobile P4 driver it gave me an error message to the effect that the driver was not supported on my computer and os.

yes it will only install on an mobile P4 with HT I believe. But either way, SP2 already has the update so its no biggie.
